Trust Wins

The Short Version

People buy from businesses they trust. A website is where that trust either builds or breaks — before a single conversation happens.

The Long Version

Trust isn't a badge. It's a pattern of evidence that compounds across every page, every interaction, every follow-up.

The pattern that builds trust:

  • Your face, your name, your street. Not stock photos. Not "we" language hiding a one-person operation. The owner's photo, the real address, the real phone number. The businesses that hide these things have a reason.
  • Proof the work exists. Photos of actual jobs — not portfolio renders, not stock imagery. The before/after of the basement you waterproofed. The kitchen you renovated. The patient who left a review with their name and face.
  • Answers before questions. The FAQ that actually answers the questions people ask at 11 PM — "Do you do emergency calls?" "What's your warranty?" "How long does it take?" Not "We pride ourselves on excellence."
  • Consistency across every touchpoint. The voice on the phone matches the voice on the site. The quote matches the invoice. The timeline matches reality. One crack in this chain and the whole thing feels fragile.
  • Follow-up that proves you're real. The automated "we got your message" email is the bare minimum. The personal text from the owner saying "Saw your request — I'll call you by 2 PM" is what builds the relationship before the first call.

What Breaks Trust

  • Stock photos of model-perfect families in model-perfect kitchens
  • "We'll get back to you within 24-48 hours" (nobody believes it)
  • Contact forms that go to a black hole
  • Testimonials with initials only — "J.S., Kelowna"
  • A site that looks different on mobile than desktop
  • Pricing that requires a "discovery call" to reveal
  • "We're the best" without a single specific claim

The Trust Audit

Before you launch, run through every page and ask:

  • Would I believe this if I didn't know the business?
  • Is there a real human behind this?
  • Can I verify any of these claims?
  • What would make me hesitate?

Fix the hesitations. That's the trust work.
